The key thing about this idea is that clubs should see themselves as open clubs—open to the wider community in which they find themselves rather than just focused on results inside the stadium, and open to all without discrimination by religion, gender, ethnicity or ability. This is a simple idea which they can translate into their particular catchment area and which has economic as well as social benefits for clubs.

Hintergrund
Previously senior clubs have been required to appoint community relations officers. In the 2011-12 season, All premiership clubs along with a few other clubs in other leagues, will be assisted to conduct audits of community relations issues they face and develop policies to address them. This has provided clubs with the opportunity to stand back from the day-to-day pressures of how they pay their first team to think about the wider social role they play.
