A sedum type roof system (live controlled-growth grasses) ensures that oxygen is produced to improve air quality and reduce carbon dioxide levels. It also retains a high percentage of rain water; provides a sustainable habitat for particular types of plants and wildlife; and protects from heat, noise and air cooling. The training ground is built and designed to meet an “Excellent BREEAM” rating, which indicates that the design has a minimal impact on the environment locally and globally.

Chelsea FC’s training ground in Cobham was opened in 2007 following an ambitious investment that was to ensure “a building in harmony with its setting”. When opened, the facility met all environmental, architectural design, and building requirements that were envisaged in the planning process.
