#Sport4Refugees Perspectives – Des Tomlinson

Des Tomlinson, FAI Intercultural National Coordinator
“Migration is certainly not a new phenomenon, and for those forcibly displaced today the reasons have clear echos of the past: poor economic opportunities, fear of persecution, threat of war or violence, to name a few. But in a world where, often, the words ‘migrant’ or ‘refugee’ have been allotted a new meaning; where the single narrative, polarised attitudes, xenophobia and unwavering stereotypical views can predominate the conversation, how we respond to and deal with this issue will define our generation and generations to come. Yes there can be significant challenges but these should be met with conversations that bring about humanistic as well as pragmatic approaches.”
